FSO School of the ArtsEngage in the arts in a beautiful setting at The Firelands Symphony School of the Arts.

With the goal of fostering a life-long appreciation and love of the arts, the FSOSOA offers quality arts instruction in instrumental music, vocal music and visual arts in both individualized and group formats to students, ages newborn to 106. Highly qualified, experienced instructors are dedicated to their students and strive to encourage each pupil to reach his or her creative potential. While school districts are being forced to cut arts programs, the FSOSOA continues to provide exceptional arts education to the children in our communities.

PRIVATE LESSONS

The FSOSOA offers private instruction in all instruments and voice, for all ages. Our instructors are active performers and are highly qualified in their specific areas. VIOLIN · PIANO · CELLO · FLUTE · CLARINET · BASSOON · OBOE · VIOLA · TRUMPET · VOICE · MUSIC THEORY

CHILDREN’S CHOIR
Starting Sept. 11 – Call for information. Course Times: Thurs. 6-7 p.m. Tuition: $50 per 12-week session

EARLY CHILDHOOD ARTS

Kindermusik with the Schmenks The world’s leading music and movement class for children from newborns to age seven. Introduces children to an exciting musical world filled with singing, instrumentation, rhythm and creative movement. Classes are one day/ week, 15 week sessions for 45 minutes, except Family Time, which meets for 10 weeks. Parental participation is required.

VILLAGE – Ages Newborn - 18 months Learn how to stimulate your child’s learning through vocal play, object exploration and creative movement. We will provide you with more tools to continue the enrichment at home through bonding with your baby with books and CD’s.

OUR TIME – Ages 18 months – 3 years Introduce your child to a musical world filled with singing, imitating sounds, rhyming, sound identification, instrument exploration and creative movement. Your child will continue learning at home with At Home Materials- all designed to help your child improve confidence, self-control and communication skills.

IMAGINE THAT! – Ages 3-5 Years Pair music with expressive language, storytelling, peer interaction, movement and pretend play. Your child will further expand his cognitive and literacy skills as well as creativity and individuality. The learning continues through the At Home Materials which include activities such as illustrated literature books, a pretend play set, CD and instrument.

FAMILY TIME – Ages Newborn to 7 Years Bring all of your children together to explore a multi-layered learning environment. Each week, a basic musical concept is introduced. Then each family is given the instruments and structured free time to put those concepts into play. This convenient, all-in-one class focuses on developing strong social skills and enhancing the emotional bond among family members. The At Home Materials extend the classroom activities with engaging books, CD’s, puppets and instruments. For class schedules, enrollment, and tuition call Rhonda Schmenk at 419-609-9712.

VISUAL ARTS

Basic Drawing with Charles Mayer – Drawing is the basis of all two dimensional visual Arts. Students will use various still-life subjects weekly in this one-hour class to learn the principles of simple perspective, proportion and various shading techniques to render the illusion of three-dimensional form on the flat surface. Subjects are chosen to demonstrate particular objectives, but when possible, will also reflect interests and needs of the class participants. Course Times: To be arranged Tuition: 1 hour – $162 per 9-week quarter, Minimum 2 students/class

Origami with Charles Mayer – Origami is the Japanese art of folding paper into birds, masks, animals and geometric forms. The Origami class is tailored to the experience and ability of the enrolled students, but normally begins with the learning of standard folding terms and “bases” and builds on this knowledge at the student’s pace. Course Times: To be arranged Tuition: 1 hour – $162 per 9-week quarter, Minimum 2 students/class

Creative Kids Art Workshops with Judy Aldrich – Kids love Creative Kids! Fun and creative projects introduce painting, sculpture, drawing and more! Friday “Evening Out” or Saturday “Fun Day” workshops, 3.5 hours each. Students, pack a lunch or dinner. Parents, enjoy an “Evening Out” or a “Fun Day” on the town while your kids make art! REGISTRATION

The FSOSOA scholastic year consists of four 9 week quarters beginning in September, November, February, April and an 8 week summer session beginning in June. Students who wish to take private instruction may start at any time. There is a $40 per year (non-refundable) fee per family to be paid in full at registration with the first quarter classes. Students of the School of Arts are encouraged to attend performances of the Firelands Symphony Orchestra. Any student enrolled at the school will receive a free ticket to attend the concerts.
