“HIGH FREQUENCY” Flute Quartet – Free Summer Ensemble SeriesFree
**** FREE CONCERT – NO TICKETS REQUIRED ****
Firelands Symphony Orchestra’s free outdoor Summer Ensemble Concerts return with “HIGH FREQUENCY” Flute Quartet performing at BGSU Firelands McBride Arboretum on Sunday, June 30, 2019, at 4 p.m. This first of five Summer Ensemble Concerts includes a night of music from “HIGH FREQUENCY” Flute Quartet ranging from classic to contemporary, with samples of opera, dance, and world music. Located outside at BGSU Firelands McBride Arboretum, we invite you to bring a lawn chair or blanket and help us kick-off summer with a beautiful evening surrounded by flowers, water, and music that the entire family can enjoy.
The “HIGH FREQUENCY” Flute Quartet is a highly talented ensemble comprised of members of the Firelands Symphony Orchestra. Jesse Martin, principal oboe; Tamara Kagy, principal flute; Elizabeth Studer, flute; and Jody Chaffee, flute and principal piccolo, have been performing together in various capacities for many years.
Founded five years ago by the Principal Flutist of the Firelands Symphony Orchestra, Tamara Kagy, “HIGH FREQUENCY”’s purpose is to provide an outlet for advanced flutists to perform the remarkable range of traditional and popular flute repertoire that is available today. The quartet will charm the audience with selections from popular works of stage and opera, as well as Celtic thematic works by a popular composer Catherine McMichael.
This evening will consist of “HIGH FREQUENCY” Flute Quartet’s performance of 8 pieces of music that showcase the best of Themed music, Orchestral Favorites, World music and Standard Flute Repertoire classics. The music of Michigan composer, Catherine McMichaels will highlight the beauty and dance of the Celtic regions. Selections from “Wyndsong” by Sonny Burnett will describe to the listener the perceived way of the wind (wynd) in different world regions.
The huge, purely C Flute piece, “Grand Quartet” in e minor, by Kuhlau will showcase the richness and virtuosity of classic flute quartet repertoire. From the orchestral world, favorites from the opera “ Carmen” and Rimsky-Korskov’s “Flight of the Bumblebee” will be a treat for all. The quartet’s own, Jesse Martin (Principal Oboe of FSO), has arranged the stunning Ravel piece “Bolero” for the quartet.
The skill of The “HIGH FREQUENCY” Flute Quartet will indeed set off a high frequency of music and excitement as they give voice to their C flutes, piccolos, alto flutes, Eb and bass flutes through the wonders of classic flute repertoire. The music that “HIGH FREQUENCY” performs truly delights all who hear it.
The free FSO ensemble concerts are made possible by a grant from the Erie County Community Foundation in collaboration with the James H. McBride Arboretum and BGSU Firelands.

ABOUT HIGH FREQUENCY
“HIGH FREQUENCY” was created by Kagy, as a way to perform with friends and explore the standard and virtuoso flute repertoire that is so rich in giving voice to the flute. The members of the quartet own and perform on all the voices of the flute giving the ensemble a rich texture and multifaceted color.
